Mojo - 19 Back Bridge St, Manchester, M3 2PB map
- Mojo, a dark loft bar above the Starbucks behind Kendals, is a popular hidden gem. Serving great cocktails and playing classic rock music from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today, the walls are packed with posters and black and white prints of rock icons, with a fair share of Mancunian stars amongst them. Another concept imported from Leeds, Mojo also have a branch in the Bahamas and can best be described as a superior British take on the Hard Rock Cafe formula (minus the food, crap American perm metal and the memoribilia from bands that never really meant anything to Manchester anyway). There’s a large cocktail menu, with prices amongst the cheapest in town and the quality amongst the best. And where else in Manchester will you hear Neil Young followed by Gill Scott Heron, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin or Creedence Clearwater Revival!?! Located in what was once Lloyds Bar, Bench and Tapas Tapas, just off Bridge Street, near the Crown Court, it’s a hard to find bar that always looks closed from the outside. The entrance is tucked down the dirty backstreet behind the fantastic Koreana restaurant and the delightful Mulligans Irish pub. It’s one well worth seeking out and it’s obvious many people do as it especially gets busy at weekends. As they claim themselves, they’re playing ‘Music For The People’.
