The Comeercial HotelThe Commercial - Liverpool Road, Castlefield, Manchester, M3 4JR map

  • Situated at the bottom end of Liverpool Street, opposite the old Liverpool Street Station, the first railway station in the world, the commercial hotel is often overlooked.  this is a shame as it is a very friendly local pub.  There’s a homely feel to it with a roaring fire to keep you warm.  The bar has the usual range of pub drinks, real ale and a large projector screen showing the football.  The decor is traditional and one of the few pubs in manchester where you feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s front room.  Wonderful!
  • Real Ale
  • Live Sports (Sky Sports, BBC, ITV, etc)

AXMAXM bar -  10 Canal Street, Manchester, M1 3EZ map

  • The award winning AXM bar claims to offer more than any other bar in the village. It’s a fabulous venue, with a great atmosphere and some of the best staff around. the contemporary style is fresh and clean. They’ve got one of the best video jukeboxes in town, and internet access is available either via wifi or one of their terminals. You’ll also find an event here every night and a great range of drinks promotions are available. Whilst it is relaxed, it does have quite a strict door policy.  AXM has replaced Autobahn and previously the original Bar 38 on Canal Street.

Peveril Of The PeakPeveril Of The Peak - 127 Great Bridgewater Street, Manchester, M1 5JQ map

  • The Peveril Of The Peak could arguably be Manchester’s most famous pub. This distinctive looking traditional pub has also been a haven for many a celeb, with the likes of Eric Cantona and Robbie Coltrane being regular visitors. Sat awkwardly on a triangular piece of land on the corner of Great Bridgewater Street, the amazing two tone green brick work and roof top washing line makes it one of Manchester’s best loved landmarks. ‘The Pev’, as it’s referred to by many Mancunians, has a fine selection of real ales and beers and even offers a pool table and a traditional table football machine with the soundtrack provided by the excellent jukebox, crammed full of the more famous Manc bands.

Manto

MantoManto - Manto, 46 Canal Street, Manchester, M1 3WD map

  • Manto has been situated in the village since the very beginning and it was instrumental in helping create the village we know and love today.Manto is also home to The infamous Breakfast Club, started way back in 1993. A big bar (Manto is spread over three floors), can often feel hollow and one can become a number in the crowd, not so here, everyone is very friendly and they want you to be happy, relaxed and carefree. A bar by day and a club by night, manto is run by gay people for gay people, although if you’re not gay but just a little bit happy then you’re more than welcome.

Scu2

Scu2Scu2 - Chester Street, Manchester, M1 5SH map

  • It seems that every popular bar in manchester now has a second ’sister’ bar somewhere near by. Scu2 is the sister bar to the student heaven that is scubar (just down the road). Offering more of the same, i guess they are simply trying to get closer to their target audience, manchesters students, some of who live above the bar in one of MMU’s many residential blocks.

Dimitris

DimitrisDimitris - Campfield Arcade, Tonman Street, Deansgate Manchester, M3 4FN map

  • Serving a mix of greek and italian dishes, dimitris is a very popular bar restaurant right at the very end of deansgate. The bar is only small and gets very busy in the evenings, particularly at the weekend when there is live music. During the day its popular with the people in the media industry who work nearby, but come the evening the bar turns into a bohemian haunt serving some great drinks and great taps. There are always drink and food promotions on so make sure you ask at the bar for their specials. Be warned, at the weekend you need to get in there early, it gets very full, very fast.

Lotus Bar & Dim SumLotus Bar & Dim Sum - 35a King Street, Manchester, M2 6AA map

  • Bringing a welcome change to the typical eateries and drinkeries in manchester, Lotus Bar offers a great range of both drink and food.  This stylish offering from The Yang Sing, is nestled between the designer stores on King Street and as a result is popular during the day.  With outside seating, behind the wonderful St Ann’s Church it also makes a great place to rest those tired feet in the summer.  There’s a great choice of dim sum available for you to enjoy whilst sipping one of the many cocktails, spirits or champagnes and, as you’d expect from the Yang Sing, it’s very tasty.

GrinchGrinch - 5 – 7 Chapel Walks, Manchester, M2 1HN map

  • Since opening a few years back, grinch has been one of the most popular wine bars in manchester. Being situated in the heart of the city centre means that at lunch time the clientele is a mix of shoppers, office workers and business types. In summer it boasts popular outside seating and if you time it just right to enjoy their great happy hour promotions (between 5 and 7pm every day!) you can sample one of their cocktails and have a pizza. Owned by the same people as the local Felicini pizzerias, Grinch is also a great venue for an early evening drink or a pre theatre meal, being situated round the corner from the royal exchange. You can also have a boogie in their downstairs bar.

Bacchanalia

BacchanaliaBacchanalia - 15 – 17 Chapel Walks, Manchester, M2 1HN map

  • Named after the wild and mystic festivals to the greek god bacchus, bacchanalia is a trendy bar and restaurant in the heart of city centre manchester, taking the venue vacated by simple in the city. The downstairs bar is very popular at lunchtimes with the local business folk and shoppers, and when five o’clock comes you will very often find the same people walking through the same doors they walked out of just three and a half hours earlier. A little later on in the evening bacchanalia becomes a great venue for young lovers and you will often see them head upstairs to the mediterranean stlyed menus of the restaurant after having had an excellently prepared cocktail from the downstairs bar. Talking of the bar, there is an excellent speciality wine menu, some imported beers and over 150 cocktails to sample, so if you have the time, sit yourself down in one of the very plush leather booths and try the lot!
